Panama's best year ever?

Welcome friends old and new to the first edition of the Panama Nuggets NEWSLETTER for 2007

At the moment the weather here in Volcan is absolutely gorgeous. Dry, warm and sunny and with a wonderfully refreshing breeze. For all of our readers in the frozen climes of Canada or the US I wish we could bottle a little bit of this and send it to you.

New Years day my wife and I spent several hours on the beach at Las Olas, which is an hours drive from Volcan. We both feel it is the nearest thing to Hawaii that Panama has to offer. Lydia did not want to leave.

A few days earlier we went fishing with the owners of the Las Olas Beach Resort and ended up on a palm treed, desert island called Paredes. The beach was white sand, the water was clear as a bell and a blue sky completed the picture. Panama continues to amaze me.

If you are a single woman-divorced or widowed and have thought about a new life in sunny Panama, then do we have good news for you. A new website is starting that is dedicated to helping you make the transition. In our first article we talk to several single women who have successfully made the move.

The second article is about a visit we made to Panama’s second engineering marvel-the La Fortuna hydro-electric facility. The generators for this mega producer are situated 400 meters under a mountain in a huge cavern. This modern marvel can be visited – we tell you how.

More mountain mysteries, this time from Caldera, south of Boquete. Here we visited several petroglyph sites and found an ancient calendar, maps of extinct villages and something really intriguing - a drawing of a UFO? We were also told of a possible lost Mayan city in the jungles of Bocas del Toro.
