Election day May 3 in Volcan.

May 2009

MARTINELLI WINS IN LANDSLIDE
May was a momentous time here in Panama. In a general election 60.4% of the people voted for millionaire store owner, Ricardo Martinelli. For many this is a very positive move as the old admnistration had too many ties to the dictator Manuel Noriega. President Elect Martinelli promises tax reforms and a more business like attitude from his government. Ex pats generaly view this as a positive move as Martinelli spent many years in the US and is seen as being friendly to the expat community.

The rainy season is back although we do still have the blue sky mornings to bolster our spirits. Check out the articles in the CHIRIQUI LIBRE, life in the mountains just gets better. More people are deciding to move to Panama and make this their permanent home. We still have affordable real estate in Volcan and remember the great beach resorts are just 2 hours drive away.

NEW NEWSPAPER
Up to your RIGHT you will see a box for CHIRIQUI LIBRE Volcan's new local paper. Click on for a brief look at the FOURTH edition. Here we have local stories in both English and Spanish and soon Ngobe. There is a great sense of optimisim in the highlands this year and we believe that 2009 will be our best year in along time.

MORE REAL ESTATE LISTINGS.
To your left is a box for CHIRIQUI REALTY. They have one of the most extensive listings in the area. Check the list carefully and you will find some very affordable bargains. We hope to add more realtors so your choices will be even greater. We at yourpanama.com are NOT in the realty business, we do not accept commissions or finders fees - its just our way of helping people to find their dream homes.

The financial meltdown has not directly affected Panama. Except that most of our retirees come from the US and Canada and they can’t move here, unless they first sell there. We are still very affordable in this country, and you can buy fixer-uppers in Volcan for under $40,000. How much does it cost to live here? For a $1,000 a month you can live well.

The rainy season is just starting here in the highlands which means things will start getting more lush and greener - I know lots of cows who are just longing for this.

If you want to read more about Panama life please check out the NEWSLETTER stories by clicking on the box in the upper Left hand corner. You won’t be alone, last month people from all over the world read more than 20,000 of our articles.
