There is a great deal of activity on the road from the Pan American highway to Puerto Armuelles. There are plans to upgrade this road to 4 lanes and connect it directly to a new deep water terminal in Puerto Armuelles. This could be the start of the "dry canal" enabling containers to be shipped across Panama avoiding the congestion and high fees of the Panama Canal. Also this would open up the port to cruise ships. The tourism potential for this area would see a huge improvement. The survey crews are working 7 days a week (yes they are even working on Sundays) I tried to get some inside info from two engineers yesterday but they were understandibly tight lipped. Be assured the next big boom area in Panama will be in the Puerto Armuelles area.
The 4 lane highway to Boquete is well under way. This will be part of the much larger project to have 4 lanes running from a new deep water container port at Puerto Armuelles to the Atlantic port of Chiriqui Grande. In the province of Chiriqui there are billions of dollars being invested as we speak. Perhaps this is a good place to retire?
